Description
- Irving Penn
- 'STEINBERG IN NOSE MASK'
- platinum-palladium print
platinum-palladium print, signed, titled, dated, editioned '19/36,' and annotated in pencil and stamped on the reverse, 1966, printed in 1976 (MoMA, pl. 143)
Provenance
Acquired from Stephen Wirtz Gallery, San Francisco, circa 1983
Condition
This print, on paper with a deckled edge, is in generally excellent condition. There are a few tiny grey deposits that are possibly inherent in the paper. The upper left edge of the paper is slightly darkened, possibly from graphite offsetting.
On the reverse, the Condé Nast copyright stamp is dated '1966' in pencil. The edition information stamp indicates that in addition to the 36 numbered platinum prints, there may exist no more than 15 signed, unnumbered gelatin silver prints. The reverse is also stamped 'Hand-coated by the photographer.' The reverse is annotated 'P 1803' (circled) and 'Platinum-palladium print made June 1976.'
