Description

  • Berenice Abbott
  • 'N. Y. PRODUCE EXCHANGE BUILDING, CUSTOM HOUSE STATUE: IN REAR'
  • Gelatin silver print
numbered '152' in the negative, the photographer's Federal Art Project 'Changing New York' and caption stamps, with title, date, and annotations in colored pencil, on the reverse, 1936 (Yochelson, Wall Street, pl. 2)

Condition

This photograph, on double-weight, lightly-textured paper with a faint surface sheen, is in generally excellent condition. In the black margin edges, there are small clamp impressions. The tips of the margin corners are bumped and the edges are rubbed, with resultant minor chipping. The reverse of the print is appropriately age-darkened at its periphery. The reverse is lightly soiled, there is an 'X' in ink, and there are small rust-colored liquid deposits of indeterminate nature near the lower right corner. On the reverse of the print, the 'Changing New York' stamp is annotated in colored pencil with the following information: Place: '2 Broadway - Manhattan' Neg. # '152' Code: 'I-B and I-A-3' Date: 'July 23, 1936'
