titled and dated in ink and with the photographer's credit, 'Life Photo by Alfred Eisenstaedt,' date, and Famous Photographers School lesson stamps, with numbers in pencil, on the reverse, framed, 1928, printed in 1952; accompanied by an extensively stamped mount remnant (Remembrances, p. 11)

Condition

This photograph, trimmed to the image and on double-weight, semi-glossy paper, is in generally very good condition. The LIFE date stamp on the reverse of the print indicates that it was made on 'January 31 1952.' In high raking light, the following are visible: tiny matte deposits, likely original retouching; small soft handling creases, most notably one measuring 1-and-1/2 inches in the central portion of the image; and a one-inch linear impression that does not appear to break the emulsion near the lower left corner. The edges are rubbed, with attendant tiny losses of emulsion, and there are 4 tack-holes in the corners. The reverse of the print is worn and textured, suggesting that this print was previously affixed to a mount. '50%' is written in an unidentified hand in orange crayon. On the reverse of the print are the following stamps: 'Alfred Eisenstaedt,' 'Life Photo by Alfred Eisenstaedt' (in triplicate), and the Famous Photographers School lesson stamp, with '10,' '485,' and 'E' (circled) in pencil. The accompanying mount remnant is stamped as follows: 'Famous Photographers School, Wilton Road, Westport, Conn.,' 'Original Art,' and 'Please Return to Art Archives, Graphics Building.' This photograph is also reproduced in: Famous Photographers Course, Volume II, Lesson 10, 'Portraits,' pp. 5 and 41. Technical information about the making of this photograph is as follows: Leica with a 90mm lens; Super XX film; 1/50 second at f/3.5; available light.
