Condition

This photograph is on double-weight paper with a semi-glossy surface. In raking light, occasional small soft creases and impressions, long hairline scratches, and deposits of original retouching are visible overall. The print is trimmed to the image, and the edges and corners are appropriately worn. On the reverse of the print are the following annotations in an unidentified hand in pencil: 'Sougez $20,' 'INV #1,' '874.1977,' and '2001-62-111' [crossed out].

Catalogue Note

Emmanuel Sougez was also featured in the Levy Gallery’s Modern European Photography exhibition in February 1932.  Another print of this image, from the collection of Marie-Thérèse and André Jammes, was sold at Sotheby’s London in October 1999 (Sale LO9316, Lot 272).
