Description

  • Berenice Abbott
  • 'LYRIC THEATRE'
  • Gelatin silver print
the photographer's Federal Art Project 'Changing New York' and caption stamps, with title, date, and annotations in colored pencil, on the reverse, 1936 (Yochelson, Lower East Side, pl. 37)

Condition

This photograph, on textured, double-weight paper with a surface sheen, is in generally excellent condition. The corners are bumped, and the upper right corner is creased 1/2-inch, which appears to break the emulsion. The edges are very lightly worn, with resultant tiny losses. There are small clamp impressions in the margins. The reverse of the print is appropriately age-darkened at its periphery. On the reverse of the print, the 'Changing New York' stamp is annotated in colored pencil with the following information: Place: '3rd Avenue between 12th and 13th streets, Manhattan' Neg. # '112' Code: 'III.D.I' Date: 'April 24, 1936'
