Description

  • Edward Weston
  • CHARIS (NUDE)
  • Gelatin silver print
mounted, signed and dated in pencil on the mount, 1935 (Conger 884)

Provenance

Sotheby's New York, 22 April 2006, Sale 8189, Lot 120

Condition

This print, on semi-glossy paper, is in generally excellent condition. Visible only in raking light and upon very close examination are tiny deposits of what appears to be original retouching and tiny pin-point-sized indentations. Faint silvering is visible in the dark areas of the image. This photograph is mounted to slick off-white board, which has been trimmed unevenly. There are four small rust-colored deposits and faint soiling on the mount. There are two small pieces of linen tape, a large area of adhesive residue, and soiling on the reverse.
