  • Gelatin silver print
  • 9 1/8 x 7 3/4 inches
the photographer's credit stamp on the reverse, framed, an Irving Galleries label on the reverse, 1944, printed later

Provenance

Estate of the photographer, Edwynn Houk, agent

Acquired from Irving Galleries, Palm Beach, 2000

Condition

This print is on single-weight paper with a semi-glossy surface. Brandt left an approximately one-inch margin at the bottom and an 1/8-inch margin along the left, right and upper edges. The photographer's original retouching is visible overall. In the upper-central portion of the image, retouching highlights and defines individual sheep. In raking light, several soft and sharp creases (the longest of which measures 2½-inches) are visible on the image and in the lower margin; some of the creases appear to break the emulsion. There are 2 paper tape hinge remnants along the upper edge on the reverse. When examined under ultraviolet light, this print appears to fluoresce.
