Condition

Grading this albumen print on a scale of 1 to 10 - 10 being an albumen print that has deep brown dark tones and highlights that retain all of their original detail - this print rates a 6 or 7. There is no loss of detail in the print, and the textures of the canyons in the picture are clearly presented. The highlights have yellowed with age and the tonality is generally somewhat muted. In the lower left corner of the image and along the upper edge, there are 2 small tears (measuring no larger than 3/4-inches) and attendant tiny losses that occurred prior to mounting. When examined closely in high raking light, scattered very faint scuffs and hairline surface scratches are visible. The original Wheeler Survey mount is somewhat age-darkened and worn at the periphery. The mount corners are bumped. On the reverse of the mount, '47639' is written in an unidentified hand in ink. Also on the reverse are the following stamps: 'Duplicate;' 'Surplus Duplicate Library of Congress;' and 'L. C. Division of Prints.'
