Condition

This piece is in good general condition. It bears a small rhombus (with the initial M. in the centre) embossed in the lower right corner and a partially invisible number 40 (?) in the upper right corner. With two scratches of approx. 7 cm in the left part of the image and some very light scratches, probably due to polishing, and with two tiny scuffs near the upper edge at the centre. Oxidation mainly along the left and right edges and a more strongly oxidated area at approx. 4 cm from the right edge. This is clearly visible in the catalogue/online illustration. This daguerreotype has been stored for many years without any protection in a particularly custom-made wooden box, together with the plates of lots 2, 3, 4, 5, 7 and 8, and the vertical oxidation on the plate of lot 6 corresponds to the opening of the box where air could penetrate. Some light scratching at approx. 5 mm along the upper and lower edges due to manipulation in and out of the box. For handling purposes, the plate has been mounted between to plates of plexiglass such that the reverse is also visible.
