la première, par François-Nicolas Chevance, ovale, en or de trois tons, décorée d'un semis de pois et bordée de pois en relief, la bâte entrecoupée de bouquets de fleurs, poinçon de maître, poinçon de charge et décharge de Henri Clavel, Paris, 1781, la bordure apparemment numérotée 5;  la seconde, rectangulaire, en or de trois tons et émail noir, décorée de rinceaux de plumes entourant une lyre, bordée d'entrelacs, le dessous à motifs de croisillons, poinçon de maître de Bautte & Moynier, poinçon de Genève après 1814

the first, oval, three-colour gold, scattered with pellets within raised pellet border, the sides divided by flower sprays, maker's mark, charge and discharge marks of Henri Clavel, Paris, 1781, the rim apparently numbered 5 ; the second rectangular, three-colour gold and black enamel, decorated overall with plumy scrolls around a central lyre within chased interlaced borders, the base diaper patterned, maker's mark of Bautte & Moynier, Geneva, post-1814 mark

Condition

both in very good condition although the first has very slight chipping to enamel on corners.

Catalogue Note

François-Nicolas Chevance était apprentis auprès du fabricant de boîtes Dominique-François Poitreau qui le sponsorisa lorsqu'il accéda à la maîtrise en 1780, sis à la cour neuve du Palais. Il y resta pour cinq ans; puis déménagea rue de Gesvres en 1786/7 et rue de Harlay de 1788 jusqu'en 1793.

François-Nicolas Chevance was apprenticed in 1766 to the gold box maker, Dominique-François Poitreau who also stood as his sponsor when he became master in 1780 from the cour neuve du Palais. He remained there for five years, moving to the rue de Gesvres in 1786/7 and rue de Harlay from 1788 until 1793.
