Catalogue Note

Jeremias I Wildt mourut en 1608.

Magnificent Silver-gilt...From the Rothschild and Rosebery collection, Mentmore, Sothebys, Londres, 11 Février 1999, lot  6

Jeremias I Wildt died 1608. As the maker's mark appears to be  clearly that of Wildt and the year mark that of 1613, it is possible that Wildt's widow maintained responsibilty for the workshop after his death as was known to happen.

This ewer is recorded in the Rothschild family inventory of 1876 compiled after Baron Meyer's death, and the inventory of 1884 where its location is recorded on a Boule cabinet in the Limoges Room at Mentmore Towers.  See: 1999 sothebys sale catalogue referred to below.
