The following condition report has been provided by Simon Parkes of Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc. 502 East 74th St. New York, NY 212-734-3920, simonparkes@msn.com, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's. This work may have been restored in the past 15 years or so. The paint layer is stable and the work is very presentable. The canvas has been lined. There are retouches along the bottom edge beneath the signature and a few spots beneath the collar of the gentleman's coat. There is also loss in his left calf that has been restored. There are otherwise essentially no retouches. The work is not abraded. There is very reason to commend the extremely good condition of this painting.
