Condition

Tightly relined and surface has been pressed as a result. under a thick shiny varnish. the paint surface has been somewhat abraded in background areas and in some of the darker pigments such as the boy's gray jacket, the metal bucket at center and the table top. upon close inspection, the canvas weave is showing through in these areas. the still life elements at right side are very well preserved. overall, the painting still reads well and presents a strong image. under UV light the surface fluoresces unevenly and there appear to be retouches of differing ages. the faces of both figures have extensive inpainting of craquelure and there is a larger area of retouching over girl's hand. other scattered retouches can be seen throughout background and a few on some still life elements (however the grouping at far right side looks good). Offered in a carved and gilt wood frame.
