Condition

Old glue relining is firm and stable. the paint surface has been generally well retained and there is very good preservation of detail in the fruit, porcelain beaker, bowl and carpet. the background and tall glass are slightly thinner but this is not particularly distracting and overall the image is very strong and attractive. under UV light: there is a thick varnish which makes it difficult to read under ultraviolet. there are some small retouches on top of the varnish which can be seen in background upper right, on outline of tall glass, on far right edge of bowl, and over a diagonal scratch which runs from left edge of carpet down into stone pedestal at center. the painting is presentable and could be hung as is. in an elaborately carved and gilt wood frame.
