Condition
The following condition report has been provided by Simon Parkes of Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc. 502 East 74th St. New York, NY 212-734-3920, simonparkes@msn.com, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's.
This painting is more or less clean and has been restored; it should be hung in its current condition. The canvas is lined with wax as an adhesive, and the paint layer is stable. The retouches are quite effective in most areas; they are numerous in the sky, and through the dog. Other small losses in the trees and foreground have also been restored, though perhaps less enthusiastically than the other areas. The condition is compromised, but the painting looks well nonetheless.
