Condition
The following condition report has been provided by Simon Parkes of Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc. 502 East 74th St. New York, NY 212-734-3920, simonparkes@msn.com, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's.
This work is in lovely condition, but is noticeably dirty. The canvas has an old lining, which is still effective. No restorations are visible under ultraviolet light, except for three spots in the figure's chest. If and when the picture is cleaned, I think it is unlikely that any other significant restorations or damages will be revealed. The painting is obviously in beautiful and fresh condition.

Catalogue Note
Though a convincing attribution for this Saint Mark has yet to be proposed, it follows the head of a full length Saint Mark by Valentin de Bolougne, which now hangs Musée des Beaux Arts, Dijon.
