Condition

The painting is slightly brighter than it appears in the catalogue illustration. For a high resolution digital image, please refer to the online catalogue at Sothebys.com or contact a member of the Old Master Paintings department. Panel has been cradled. there is a central horizotnal panel join that is slightly visible to naked eye, more so on the right side. some minor scuffing can be seen along the left edge. the paint surface is a bit thin in background areas where the painting was probably more thinly painted to begin with. overall the painting still reads quite well and there is nice detail in figures and costumes. under UV: there is retouching along right side of join and in upper background. other very small retouches here and there on figures and foreground at right. Offered in a plain black wood frame with gilt inner rim.
