Condition

The old glue relining is firm and stable. under a dirty and uneven old varnish. at lower left there are some dried drips of varnish that are visible to naked eye. there is a small, crudely repaired tear on left eye where the old retouching has discolored and a small discolored retouch on left cheek. overall, the paint surface has been quite well retained and detail on the figure is very good, with only some slight thinness in parts of hair. under UV: it is difficult to see much through the old varnish. there is some reinforcement of the dark folds of costume. some retouches scattered in background and a few in hair. flesh tones look good overall. this painting has not been restored in many years and would benefit from a light cleaning and re-addressing of some of the old repairs that could be done more skillfully. Offered in an elaborately carved and gilt wood frame with some nicks.
