Description

  • Michiel Jansz. van Mierevelt
  • Portrait of a lady with a lace collar and pearls
  • oval, oil on panel

Provenance

With Arthur Lenars & Co., Paris (according to a label on the reverse);
With Johnny van Haeften, London;
From whom purchased by the present owner, 1989.

Condition

The oval panel is flat, stable, is not beveled, and is comprised of three pieces of wood with two vertical joins. There are small cosmetic retouches visible under UV in the face, hair, and background of the picture. These have been applied and in small concise brushstrokes so they are very subtle. The varnish is clean and the picture has a polished feel. Often times restorations on pictures of this type are heavy handed and the varnishes are quite dirty, but this is not the case here. Overall in very good state and can be hung in its current condition. In a black carved wood frame.
