Description

  • Head of Christ
  • oil on panel, in an engaged frame

Condition

The panel is made up of once board with an engaged frame, in stable condition with a slight vertical bow. There is a crack running approx. 4 in. from the left of the upper edge. There is old scattered minor retouching throughout and an area of repaint to the left side of forehead which have since discoloured and are now visible to the naked eye as shown in the catalogue image. These retouchings are confirmed when viewed under UV which also reveals strengthening to the ray halo and some strands of hair on the neck. The painting would benefit from a light clean and sensitive restoration.
