Etching with drypoint, 1934, a fine, early impression with inky plate edges, signed in pencil, dated and inscribed Pour mon ami Benno Paris 16 novembre XXXIV, an extremely rare proof, cited in Baer where only two impressions are recorded that were printed at this date (aside from the edition of 69 printed in 1961), printed by Lacouriére, Paris, on Arches wove paper

Condition

With full margins, some paper discoloration, a small fox mark at lower part of image, other minor occasional fox marks in margins, thin areas in margins verso (associated with previous hingeing), reinforced (occasional with minor repairs), framed.

Benjamin Benno was an American Modernist artist and part of the cultural avant-garde scene when he moved from New York to Paris in 1926. Picasso sponsored his first one-man exhibition in 1934.
