Etching, circa 1626, second (final) state of this rare print, a good impression

Condition

Trimmed to or on the platemark at left, trimmed just outside or to the borderline elsewhere, in good condition apart from a 5mm vertical crease at lower left corner (due to a partial tear verso), a soft short horizontal fold at upper left (mainly visible verso), a nick at centre of upper edge, a few pale light fox marks, a thin spot at upper image (mainly visible verso).

Catalogue Note

The Circumcision is now generally considered to be one of Rembrandt's earliest etchings, closely related to The Rest on the Flight into Egypt (B. 59). Erik Hinterding describes new states for this print; the present impression is his third (final) state.
