Condition
Both laid down. Staining around margins due to previous mounting. Light staining throughout. Both have a slight vertical stain running down the left side of the sheet, visible in the catalogue image. Pen and ink still strong and stronger in the original than in the image in catalogue. Sold in a modern carved and gilded frame.

Catalogue Note
Michelin was a Protestant, who lived in exile in Hanover, where he manufactured tapestries and painted portraits at the court of Brunswick. He also painted genre scenes in the manner of the Le Nain family, and his works have frequently been misattributed to those artists.
