Catalogue Note

The ED stamp present on this drawing, which closely resembles the genuine Delacroix studio estate stamp (L.838), seems to have been applied by Delacroix's assistant, Pierre Andrieu, to a number of drawings, some by the master himself and some not, which came into his possession after Delacroix's death.  Stylistically, this drawing resembles various sheets of studies by Delacroix of figures from engravings of classical sarcophagi and other antiquities.
