Catalogue Note

This must have come from the Tomo terzo de caricature which included 107 caricatures, almost all by Giambattista. George Knox believes they were mostly works from 1754-62.  The album seems to have stayed in the possession of Giandomenico Tiepolo and often served him as inspiration.  Indeed, this gentleman appears, somewhat changed, as an onlooker in Giandomenico's drawing La ricreazione, now in Berlin, which was engraved with a satirical verse by Teodoro Viero.2
