Catalogue Note

It is not clear who executed this portrait, but two Le Mires are recorded whose dates seem appropriate:  Antoine Sauvage Le Mire, who was born in 1773, exhibited works at the Salon between 1806 and 1808 and is recorded as a portraitist; and Charles Le Mire, who exhibited works at the Salon between 1793 and 1819.
