Condition

The paper is slightly yellowed, particularly at the edges (presumably from an old mount). Lightly foxed. Tiny losses to the lower corners and a small nick in the sheet lower center and also some surface dirt. Chalks remain fresh.

This drawing and the following two lots are extremely close in style and technique to the work of François Quesnel, who worked as a decorator and designer of cartoons for tapestries, but is most famous for his portraits. He worked at the French court of Catherine de'Medici and her son Henri III.
