Condition

The catalogue illustration is representative. The canvas has an old relining that is still effective and has not flattened the paint surface, which is very dirty, but stable under a discoloured varnish. Minor localised losses are scattered throughout, but for the most part the painting appears in fair condition, particularly the clothing and flesh tones, and would respond well to cleaning. The work is offered in an elaborate wood and plaster frame with some minor knocks, but is structurally sound.
