Condition

The canvas has a fairly old lining which is stable. The paint surface is a bit pressed in places but much of the impasto is still present for example in the peacock's feathers. There is a large restored damage to the pillar in the upper centre and further restored damage all the way along the upper margin. There is also a curious thin vertical line of restoration towards the right hand margin, possibly the result of the canvas having been folded at some point. There is an area of restoration in the lower left and some retouchings through the foliage. There are some localised areas of wear.
