Catalogue Note

Dating from the early 1760's, this picture is comparable in both style and date to his portrait of William Henry Bouverie (1752-1806).1 The costume, collar and possibly the painted niche may be later additions.

We are grateful to Dr. Martin Postle of the Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art, London, for endorsing the attribution following first hand inspection of the picture.
