Description
- David Teniers the Younger
- Gypsies in a rocky landscape
- signed in monogram lower right: DT F
- oil on oak panel
Condition
This signed panel is flat and stable and in good condition, and is not too thin. It has not been cradled. There are two tiy knocks in the wood at the centre of the upper edge and upper left hand corner, these are not visible when framed.
Overall the paint is in good condition and colours have not faded or thinned. Delicate brushstrokes are well- preserved. The paint layer is relatively even across the panel and the varnish is recent.
Inspection under UV light reveals cosmetic hairline retouchings vertically throughout the sky and sport retouching along the edges. There are a few larger patches of repainting in the upper right (sky and rocks), as well as the trees and roof of the house on the right hand side. The most enjoyable elements, like the bucket on the ground, the faces of the main figures and the delicately described shirt sleeves, have all been untouched.
This lot is sold is sold in a wooden frame, painted black and in very good condition.
