Condition

Hinged to the mount at the upper margin. Overall in good condition. Some light staining around the edges of the sheet. A few circular brown stains in the upper left corner . There is a crease in the sheet along the upper right margin. Pen and ink remains fresh.

Catalogue Note

In this lively and charming drawing, Guercino depicts three putti at play, taking the occasion to study various poses and figures in motion.

Sir Denis Mahon, on the basis of a photograph, confirmed the attribution to Guercino at the time of the Christie's sale in 1997.  He mentioned that it was unlikely that it was executed early in Guercino's career.
