Catalogue Note
Only two signed drawings by Murant are known: a monogrammed farmyard scene in Leiden1, and a study of a barn, signed with the artist's full name, which was on the art market in 1946. Around these two sheets, and on the basis also of comparison with his paintings, a group of drawings has been constructed, into which the present sheet fits very comfortably. It is particularly comparable with the drawing of a corner of a farmyard, also formerly attributed to Ostade, which was sold from the Klaver collection in 1994.2
