Catalogue Note

Drawings by Simon de Vos are extremely rare.  A preparatory study for a painting by the artist did, however, recently appear on the market1, and although that drawing was generally more finished than this, many details, particularly in the less elaborately drawn background figures, are strikingly similar in execution to the present sheet, indicating that the latter drawing too can be convincingly attributed to de Vos.
