Catalogue Note

Millet traveled with his wife to Vichy, in south-central France, during the summers of 1866, 1867 and 1868. Though these stays were brief, they offered Millet the opportunity to explore the countryside, both by foot and by carriage, and to hone his landscape drawing. The present lot may have been part of a notebook with two drawings - one of Vichy and another of Cusset - of identical size currently in the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
