Condition

Pastel on paper mounted on canvas. The paper has been treated like a canvas; the edges have been folded over a stretched canvas and glued to the stretcher bars on the verso. Surface dirt. Minor rubbing at the extreme edges. Minor pulling and rippling especially at the corners. There are areas of the work in which the paper is visible between the pastel. In overall good condition.

Catalogue Note

The present work is a variant of Lhermitte's pastel, Le Rue Chailly (see M. Le Pelley Fonteny, Léon Augustin Lhermitte, catalogue raisonné, Paris 1991, p. 276, no. 677).  According to the Christie's sale catalogue, this was to be included in Le Pelley Fonteny's supplement to her catalogue raisonné as no. PA 677A.
