  • Architectural scene with figures, possibly a scene from an opera
  • oil on canvas
  • 56 1/4 by 44 1/2 in.; 143 by 113 cm.

Condition

Oil on canvas. The canvas has been placed on a shorter stretcher than the original and there is approximately 3 inches of canvas that has been folded over the back of the stretcher at the top. The picture surface is in generally good condition aside from surface dirt, frame abrasions, and some very small losses scattered around the columns in the lower right corner and in the upper left corner. Under UV light, small dots of inpainting are scattered around these areas of loss; there is also inpainting in the architecture along the upper edge, the column capitals, and a line of inpainting in the base of the column between the two figures.
