- Base: birch ply and coil springs overlaid with rubberised-coir moulding
Shells: polyurethane-lacquered, hot-pressed sheet-moulding compound, covered with full-grain, chrome-tanned, aniline-dyed leather
The chair back has been signed by Dieter Rams for the (RED) Auction 2013. This is the first and last time Dieter Rams will sign this chair collection.
Condition
Overall very good condition. This work was selected by Jony Ive and Marc Newson for the (RED) 2013 auction. This suite of seating is brand new and had never been used. There are some minor imperfections in the leather, which are inherent in the making. A wonderful and very comfortable collection of seating. These works are being sold with a certificate from the (RED) 2013 auction.

Many of Dieter Rams' designs are legendary, and so it is tremendously exciting that Jony and Marc were able to access his newest furniture creation ahead of production for inclusion in the (RED) Auction. Rams' 620 Chair Program, produced by Vitsœ, is unusual in being conceived as a system: a chair can grow into a sofa via the addition of further chairs; a sofa may be split into individual chairs. With feet to the rear and castors in front, the chairs are easily repositioned. Rams is a champion of environmentally friendly design, and this set was constructed with materials that include a rubberised-coir moulding (a mixture of torn coconut husks and natural rubber).
