Description

  • Damien Hirst
  • "Beautiful Vainglorious Spin Chair""Beautiful Poker Face Spin Chair"
  • Household gloss on beech wood
Chairs commissioned from Jasper Morrison. Both signed and dated "2012" on the underside.

Condition

Overall very good condition. This work was especially selected by Jony Ive and Marc Newson for the (RED) 2013 auction and is signed by Damien Hirst. The chairs presents with even more saturated colors when viewed in person than what appears in the photograph included auction catalogue. With a few minute paint flecks that appear inherent in the making. The interior of the chair frame presents with a few minor areas of glue residue to the joints, which is also inherent in the production. These works are being sold with a certificate from the (RED) 2013 auction.

Catalogue Note

Donated by Victim.

In 2008, Damien Hirst played a pivotal role in organising the first (RED) Auction at Sotheby's, which raised more than $40 million in the fight against AIDS. Hirst's contribution to the 2013 (RED) Auction directly connects his own artwork to Jony and Marc's curation by using two beech wood chairs designed by contemporary master Jasper Morrison (see LOT 37) as "canvases" for two new "Spin" paintings. Both design objects and art works, these Spin Chairs were made using the same technique and machinery as the paintings, which the artist has been creating since 1992.
