Catalogue Note

Blending elements of Pop culture, Minimalist theory, Eastern culture and Art History, over the past 20 years Sam Havadtoy has produced an exquisite array of thought provoking paintings and sculpture. Often utilizing lace fabric to emphasize concepts of fullness and emptiness, the artist explains: “I wanted to use the fragments of lace to express my own uselessness, in the hope that by doing so I could manage to revive their beauty, to give us both a new life. We are all just fragments of one another.” Having exhibited in venues throughout the world, and in the permanent collections of institutions such as the Tel Aviv Museum of Art and the Hungarian National Gallery, Sotheby’s is honored to present Havadtoy’s HAVJ #208 (lot 576) and Sculpture of Pinocchio (lot 577) for sale.
