one to the agent Signor Corticelli, telling him that he cannot make decisions about the farm whilst he is away, since he cannot assess the problem, and complaining that as soon as he leaves, no-one at the Villa seems to be able to make any decisions about anything without bringing in a professional ("...Ma io non capisco (e voi tutti non capirete mai?) che dal momento che vi è un Dottore responsabile, e Lui e Lui solo che deve dare gli ordini, e non io, nè tù, nè altri, quando io sono assente"); the second letter to his boot-maker Signor Zaffignani [in Piacenza], asking him to send him as soon as possible the boots which he had asked to be adjusted, as any later they will be of no use to him
