Description

  • Verdi, Giuseppe
  • Autograph drafts for two letters, one to Ricordi, and signed ("G.Verdi")
  • paper
written on the same leaf, one apparently to Giulio Ricordi, complaining about being sent a bust of the composer Mazzucato by Pietro Fumeo, since it puts him under an obligation, which is something he abhors ("...M'avete reso un cattivo servizio nel suggerire allo scultore Fumeo di mandarmi in regalo una copia del ritratto di Mazzucato.  Perchè dovrei incontrare obbligazioni, dalle quali in generale aborro? Volendo, avrei ben potuto comprarlo...E poi e poi...io desidero star lontano da tante e tante, e tante cose..."), with deletions and revisions by Verdi's wife Giuseppina Strepponi; the draft on the verso to an unidentified musician ("Siga"), explaining most courteously why he is unable to help advance her career, since he no longer has any influence with the Ricordi publishing house ("...ora che da diversi anni non sono più nella vita attiva del Teatro, sono neccessariamente diminuiti, le mie influenze..."),

2 pages, 8vo, integral blank, [probably 1870s]
