Catalogue Note
This collection, dating from the height of both Liszt and Chopin's careers, contains some of Chopin's most famous early mazurkas and nocturnes, including the celebrated Nocturne in E-flat, Op.9 no.2. The Liszt editions are evidently first issues of first or contemporary editions. The binding probably dates from the early 1840s: Eugénie de Barral (1820-1900), descended from Fanny de Beauharnais, married Auguste Aubelin de Villers in 1840.
