Catalogue Note
Franciscus Renner published the first Venetian Latin Bible in 1475, based on the text of the Mainz 1462 Bible; this was incidentally the first Bible printed in the smaller format of chancery folio. In 1481 the commentary of Nicolaus de Lyra was first added to the text of the Bible by Nicolas Jenson, and this 1482 Bible including those postillae was Renner's response to that commercial challenge.
