Catalogue Note
This collection of poetry and prose by Khlebnikov takes Slav themes and styles as its starting point and ranges from avowedly lyrical to propagandist in style and content. Opening with his highly patriotic appeal to the Slavs from 1908, there are other pieces which appeared in previous Futurist works, but the main piece is “Vila i leshii" [The Wood Nymph and the Goblin] which is strongly influenced by Slav legends. The final piece on railroads is more utopian in style.
