Catalogue Note
The individual chapters of the Anfangsgründe were issued (and are all signed) separately: 'Erstes Capitel. De Rhythmopoeïa, oder Von der Tactordnung' (Regensburg & Vienna, 1752); 'Grundregeln zur Tonordnung', (Frankfurt & Leipzig etc, 1755); 'Grundliche Erklärung der Tonordnung', (Frankfurt & Leipzig, 1757); 'Erläuterung der betrüglichen Tonordnung', (Augsburg, J.J. Lotter), 1765. The first and fourth chapters were printed by Lotter in Augsburg, the second by Wagner in Ulm. A fifth chapter was published in 1768, but is not included in this volume. Five further chapters by Riepel survive in manuscript, of which only one, Baßschlüssel, was published in 1786. Joseph Riepel (1709-1782) was Kapellmeister at the court of Thurn & Taxis in Regensburg from 1749 until his death.
