Catalogue Note

Giovanni Maria Bononcini (1642-1678) was the first of the famous composers from this Modenese family.  He composed cantatas, trio sonatas and canons, and was one of the first important Italian composers to write a music theory book.  A second edition was published in 1867 and a German translation in 1701.
