Catalogue Note

This is an unusually informative document regarding Rossini's financial and domestic affairs. Rossini had sold his palazzo in Florence in November 1864 to Giacomo Servadio for 250,000 lire italiane, along with two adjoining buildings.  This marked his decision to cut his ties with the city and to remain in Paris.  Comte Alexis Louis Pillet-Will  (1805-1871) was a Parisian banker, for whose wife (Louise) Rossini composed the Petite messe solonnelle in 1863.
