Catalogue Note
A remarkable set of manuscript parts documenting evidently one of the earliest of Moscheles's compositions. It is not recorded in Smidak's 'complete catalogue' of Moscheles's compositions.
According to the date on the title-page of the piano part this attractively scored work dates from 1806, when Moscheles was only 12 and still in the city of his birth, Prague. Two years later, already a fine pianist, he would remove to Vienna to become a pupil of J.A. Streicher and Albrechtsberger, and later of Salieri. Displaying the evident influence of a key early idol of Moscheles's - Mozart - the thicker piano writing and rhythmic drive points also inevitably to Beethoven, with whom Moscheles also became closely acquainted during his Vienna years.
