Catalogue Note

Moscheles' attractive setting of F. Baltzer's text was published as Op. 136 with a dedication to Rossini by Kistner of Leipzig. In this edition an optional solo part for violoncello is provided as an alternative to the horn solo: of this part, which differs in a few bars from the horn part, there is no trace in Moscheles' autograph. A version of the song for two sopranos and piano was published in Moscheles' 4 Duetten, Op. 132.
